MORE DETAILS ABOUT LUNGBUTTER BACK IN
THE STUDIO (November 29, 2001)
Yes, thats right. Those
poster children for free thought are back in the Garbage City Studios once
again with new songs and a new approach. As
you may know, John Breno has assumed the role of drummer, both onstage and in the studio,
a position held until last year by Don McGuiness-Ford.
But thats not all. Other
guests such as Ryan Zubazz Read and Michelle Boudreau are expected to appear
on the as-of-yet-untitled album.
Technical Note: GCP has
recently upgraded to Steinberg Cubase VST/32 recording software and a Mark Of The Unicorn
2408 MkII audio interface allowing an unprecedented amount of flexibility in the recording
process. This means multiple channels of
quality 24-bit audio can be recorded simultaneously live off the floor. As well, instruments and vocals can be intensely
layered to create new sounds as yet unheard by the human ear!
The songs range from quiet and folky to fast and heavy, with extended
improv, unusual sound effects, and a plethora of different instruments and textures all
throughout.
We will be paying more attention to arrangement this time
around with an emphasis on vocals, suggests guitarist/songwriter Tony A. Ward. He continues, the entire process will be fun
and educational. Im really excited
about this new material.
Some of the things Ward is excited about are the new instrumentals
like Match The Stains and Napalm Sticks To Kids. Some new lyrical songs include Be My Little
Garbage Bag, Something Green and the long awaited The Martians
Arent Coming. Newly updated versions of road-tested classics such as Suffer
and Free Kill Pass are being recorded, in addition to a few covers by The
Idiots, Dartboard Za, and Angry Petunias. Betcha
cant wait now! |
| Lungbutter in the recording studio (November 22, 2001) Lungbutter
is currently in the recording studio, laying down tracks for at least one new release.
Stand back everybody; after going so long since a new release, Lungbutter is about
to get prolific. New song titles include "The Martians Aren't Coming",
"Napalm Sticks to Kids", and "Mattress Tag Bylaw Inspector". We
don't want to tell you everything, so as to ruin all surprise, but we decided to give you
something to whet your appetite. Lungbutter is very excited to be recording with
John on drums. Expect the new material to have a bit more of a "live"
sound than previous Lungbutter releases. |

refreshing blend of pop, surf/punk and 50's doowop. DSM is a 7 piece band with
2 guitars, bass and drums and 3 female backup vocalists.
Stay tuned for ticket prices and availability. This is the first-ever public

Anchorage, AK), the Arctic (an ice-cutting crew will prepare an area in Alert, NU), and
the Atlantic (this will take place near Reykjavik, Iceland). The band will be using
strictly acoustic instruments for the entire tour, in order to avoid having to set up
generators in the more remote locations, such as the North Pole, where the tour will be
completed. |

LUNGBUTTER CREATE WORLD'S LONGEST SINGLE SONG (February,
2000)
The very idea of a song that is two and a half days long is staggering; the
logistics of pulling it off are even more so. Guiness should take note of the band
Lungbutter from Regina, Canada, whose outrageous ideas are matched only by the enthusiasm
they show when implementing them. Two and a half days-60 hours! How does one go about
writing and recording a composition of this magnitude?
The idea for the song came from an observation that during practices, the bands
improv jam-sessions were getting progressively longer. The band members challenged each
other to an endurance contest of sorts. The end result is what Lungbutter believes to be
the worlds longest single song.
The band did not sleep during the exclusive recording session. They were kept awake by
loud volume and a steady diet of chocolate, cola, water, and encouragement from their
engineering team. Food was fed to the band-while still playing-by friends who volunteered
their time for the cause. Each band member was only able to use the washroom when they
felt the song needed a sparse treatment in certain sections.
Two Tascam DA88 digital multi-track recorders captured all 60 hours of the song by
starting one machine as the tape in the other machine was approaching its end. Both
machines were fed identical signals, and were supervised by a "round-the-clock"
team of engineers, changing tapes and adjusting levels in eight hour shifts. Several spare
cables, and backup components were kept on hand in case of failure. Over 100 instruments
are used within the context of the song.
All 37 tapes containing nearly 100 minutes on each, were carefully stored until six
solid weeks of studio time could be booked to mix and master the recording. The song is
set to be released by a major independent record label on a deluxe, limited edition 50 cd
box set. 49 of the cds will accommodate the song, while the remaining disc will
consist of interviews and out-takes.
The public is invited to name the song. To do so, e-mail Lungbutter. |
| LUNGBUTTER CD RELEASE PARTY SET FOR REGINA (October 22,
1999) We warned you! Lungbutter has confirmed that the first CD release

guest opening act. This is an all-ages show, and alcohol will be sold to those who
can prove they're legal. Doors open at 8PM, entertainment starts at 9PM.

| LUNGBUTTER'S SECOND CD IS FINALLY HERE!!! (September 10,
1999) After a long wait, the entire production and re-production process is
finally complete, and "What Have They Done This Time?", Lungbutter's second
album is now available on CD. Order yours
now!!!! Look for CD release parties in Regina and Saskatoon to take place in
mid-to-late October. Be there! Celebrate the mayhem with us! |
| LUNGBUTTER TOO CONTROVERSIAL FOR SASKATOON (July 24, 1999) Well,
it has finally happened. The head honcho of the "Taste of Saskatchewan Festival"
gave Lungbutter the hook because of the lyrical content of the song "Show Me Your Sex
Face" (not to mention the band's general inherent outrageousness). The band was
three-quarters of the way through their forty-five minute set, playing the song "Show
Me Your Sex Face", entertaining and captivating the public as usual, when suddenly
The Man became insensed and felt the need to pull the plug. The band received no negative
feedback from the crowd over their performance, nor any previous information as to what
was and wasn't appropriate behaviour or content at this festival. It was just one man that
found the band offensive, and it just so happens that this man had the power to pull the
plug. Hear the song The Man doesn't want you to hear at mp3.com. |
| LUNGBUTTER IN SASKATOON FOR "A TASTE OF
SASKATCHEWAN" (July 24, 1999) Fresh off a successful and fun appearance at
the Flatland Festival, Lungbutter will be making their way north to 'Toontown for an
appearance at the "Taste of Saskatchewan" festival at 6:00 PM on Saturday, July
22. Catch the mayhem as Lungbutter brings its "gunk rock" to another group of
unsuspecting people. |
| LUNGBUTTER APPEARING AT FLATLAND MUSIC FESTIVAL (July 10,
1999) Lungbutter will be making their second consecutive appearance at the
Flatland Music Festival at 1:20PM on Saturday, July 10, 1999. Be there to witness
the mayhem! Tell all of your friends and maybe even some of your enemies about it!
Available at the merchandise tent will be Lungbutter T-shirts and "Available
Now!" CDs. For more information on the Flatland Music Festival, visit the Saskatchewan Recording Industry Association's website.
Incidentally, SRIA is doing a live webcast of the festival for those of you unable
to make it because of such horrible things as work, or not being in Regina. And
guess what? This year, SRIA has put together a Flatland Music Compilation CD to be
sold at the festival, and Lungbutter is on it! The brand-spanking new track, "I
Think His Name Is Something (I Don't Know)", taken from the upcoming Lungbutter
release, "What Have They Done This Time?" appears on the compilation along with
many other high-quality tracks by all of your favourite Saskatchewan musicians. Be
sure to get a copy and support everybody! |
| EVEN MORE NEWS ON THE UPCOMING LUNGBUTTER ALBUM (April,
1999) After much blood, sweat, and vomit (some of which we tried desperately to
get on tape), the recording process is finally over. The album, titled What Have
They Done This Time?, is now in mastering. Artwork is being done as well, and
soon the whole mess will be in duplication, and after that, you, the adoring public, will
be able to get your hands on this ground-breaking new album. |
| LUNGBUTTER AT REGINA COMMUNITY RADIO BENEFIT (April 3, 1999) Lungbutter
came out and shocked and amazed many people as usual, and this time, it was for a good
cause. Regina does not have a community radio station for us to invade. This
benefit was one of many events staged by the group that wants to bring good radio to
Regina.
The evening was a whole lot of fun for us, as we got to see several other local acts play.
Support community radio! |
| LUNGBUTTER INVADES CFCR RADIO IN SASKATOON (February, 1999) While
we were in Saskatoon doing mixing and working on artwork for the new album, we found time
to make an impromptu appearance at CFCR Community Radio. Basically, we just walked in the door,
and ended up on the air. It
was fun, and we got it on tape. We babbled about the new album and played a couple
of tracks from Available Now! Thanks go out to the DJ, Don (I forget your
last name), for being so accommodating. |
| MORE NEWS ON UPCOMING LUNGBUTTER ALBUM (10/30/98) The
new Lungbutter album is still in the works. The recording stage is slowly approaching
completion, and after that's done, we have to kick everybody else in the rear and get them
to work on artwork, packaging, etc. Expect a release around February of 1999....we promise
it'll be worth the wait! |
| CR7 LUNGBUTTER SPECIAL TO AIR NOVEMBER 6, 7, 8 (10/30/98) The
special half-hour Lungbutter episode of Cable Regina's (Channel Seven) E-Clips will air
Friday, November 6th, Saturday the 7th, and Sunday the 8th. The show includes live clips
from Regina and Saskatoon shows and festivals, as well as "behind the scenes"
footage of the band in everyday life, acting ridiculous, and documenting the strange
goings-on in their neighbourhood. |
| LUNGBUTTER SET TO INVADE SASKATOON AGAIN (August 1998) After
the success of Lungbutter's short program at the SOMA festival in Saskatoon, SK, the guys
are set to provide 'Toontown's Wash-N-Slosh with a full evening of delightful stupidity on
August 8, 1998.
Promotion in Saskatoon for this show is being provided by the good people at SOMA, as well
as Saskatoon band HUGE. Thanks a lot guys! |
| LUNGBUTTER WIN SOMA CD PACKAGE (July 1998) There
will be a new Lungbutter album late this year (or early next year) thanks to the
Saskatchewan Original Music Association, and its many sponsors, including music
manufacturing, studio time at Right Tracks Studios, and art design. Lungbutter has been
writing for months in fact, and they will continue to do so until the tracking process
begins. New songs include "I Ate That", "Love Nugget", and "Ass
Machine Box". |
| LUNGBUTTER ON SOMA FESTIVAL ROSTER (July 1998) Regina's
wackiest band Lungbutter, will be putting their bid in to be SASKATCHEWAN's wackiest band
as they assault the people of Saskatoon with their dizzying music & lyrics and awkward
delivery at the Saskatchewan Original Music Association's annual showcase. Showtime is at
4:30PM on July 12th (that's Sunday). Come out and wear your best beekeeper's hat. |
| LUNGBUTTER AT FLATLANDS FESTIVAL (June 1998) Lungbutter
will be waking up anyone still resting from the previous night's activities, early on at
SRIA's Flatlands Festival. They take their nutty antics to the outdoor stage at 12:00PM
sharp, on Saturday, July 4th. Don't miss it - it's free, and it will be a compressed,
condensed version of non-stop insanity. CD's and T-shirts availble! |
| LUNGBUTTER HAS ANOTHER BIG-ASS PERFORMANCE AT THE OTHER SIDE
(06/27/1998) Lungbutter, with special guests Red Room, kick everybody's ass
June 27 at the Other Side. CDs and T-shirts are available! |

musical asylum escapees Lungbutter will soon be heard every week! Cable Regina is
revamping their intro, and Lungbutter is not only responsible for the new theme music, but
you should be able to see them in the video as well. Producer Tina Cournios is responsible
for the weirdest & best musical desicion public access has ever made. |
| NEWSGROUP LAUNCHED The newsgroup "alt.music.weird" officially opened for discussion
March 1st, 1998. The primary goal is to discuss "off-the-wall" musical options
with others who are also interested in music that is not mainstream. The newsgroup is
being moderated by Lungbutter and it is seeing more activity every day. Special thanks go
to Rod for setting the wheels in motion, and seeing it to fruition. |
| BIG-ASS PERFORMANCE: THE OTHER SIDE (12/13/1997) Regina
Saturday, December 13th, 1997
Half CD Release Party, half Christmas Show, this performance promises to be a blast. There
are games to be played, prizes to be won, and a visit from Santa Claus to top it all off!
Some might argue that many other Xmas concerts are offering similar ideas, but you KNOW
this isn't run of the mill - it's LUNGBUTTER.
If you are in the Regina area December 13th, come on down to The Other Side. $5 at the
door gets you in to see Lungbutter with special guests Fezzywhig kicking it off at 9:30
PM. A nice variety of drinks and merchandise will be available.
Don't end the year without seeing one of the nuttiest shows of `97. See you there! |
LUNGBUTTER at HMV Friday, October 24th, 1997
How many bands have the nards to make their first public performance(s) an HMV
"In-store" (at TWO locations in the same day no less)? The answer is 1 -
Lungbutter. Yes, Regina's weirdest band pulled it off with the kind of grace and elegance
only THEY can provide.
First at Cornwall Centre, and then two hours later at the Northgate Mall, songs such as
"Wascana Lake", "Boot Raper", and "Sewage Missile" were
performed, leaving many people's mouths agape and eyes bulging. Both performances were
very well attended, and many laughs were had (particularily when lead vocalist Rev. Reed
Collins said "Hmmm... they're stunned again..." after their fourth song).
A shoplifter was being detained at the Cornwall HMV during the performance there, and was
more or less forced to endure the show until police arrived. Now THAT'S entertainment. And
talk about adding insult to injury - it's all on video tape!
Special thanks go out to the management and staff of both HMV stores for putting up with
us. |
