"A band could not possibly be more inaudible. Songs about sex and murder are only
charming because the mic is barely plugged in." - Marc K. (listen.com)

Anniversary Edition of Jo Domp's only complete album so far, Jo Domp Kills:

JO DOMP KILLS: 8th Anniversary Edition
FOREWORD
8 years have gone by since that Saturday in October when my life
was changed forever. As usual I spent the day loitering in our mall. I was in
a dejected state and it was in this state that I dragged my feet across the brown tile of
that mall and sulked. I walked for hours and was going nowhere, but no Saturday at
the mall would be complete without the mandatory stop at A&A Records and Tapes.
I walked in and took a glance at the new releases, knowing what wasn't there. My
fingers walked through all the regular places. I finally found myseld stopped in
front of the polka section where I did the deed I never know why I do: I looked for the
non-existent. I threw open the Joe Domp header card and found another CD taking the
place of the never-to-be new Joe Domp album (this "never-to-be" album being the
cause of all my grief and sorrow). I picked up the disc and found an album by
someone named Jo Domp. Title: "Jo Domp Kills". Upon further
examination I noticed the person on the front bared an incredible resemblance to Joe Domp.
Based on this resemblance and the fact that the CD had been misplaced, I took this
coincidence as a sign and bought the disc. 8 years later and I've never looked
back...until now.
John and I found ourselves at a Kinney Shoebox Garbologist Society meeting when we
ran into a long-time friend and respected garbologist, Mark Slobber. He informed us
that he had been digging through the archives at Big Records and found tapes upon tapes of
material recorded by Jo Domp around the time "Jo Domp Kills" was recorded.
Upon hearing these tapes John and I knew something had to be done. With Mark's
help, we have released these lost tracks for the true Jo fans who couldn't get enough of
"Jo Domp Kills" and have re-released "Jo Domp Kills" in the same
package for a new generation of fans who might find something they weren't looking for
either.
- Hema.
When I was approached my Mark Slobber and Hema to edit the
"commemorative bonus tracks" for the re-release of the album, I felt honored.
When they presented me with two dozen tapes to go through, I felt sick. I was
handed everything from some crappy Scotch cassettes (which contained a lengthy radio
interview) to some 1/4" reel-to-reels some guys recorded during Domp concerts out
East. Editing was no problem (Jo never needed "mixing" because he hated
multi-tracking - he preferred going straight to 2-track tape), but CHOOSING what to
include was a considerable task. This CD has a little bit of everything, including
an unplugged version of "The Flesh Is Bubbling (Ballad)", which was recorded at
a rehearsal for MTV UNPLUGGED. The show was eventually scrapped when MTV called and
said "after some thought, we realized that you're not that good."
I sincerely hope you enjoy this album, because I'm sick of it.
- John.
(NOTE: In the original release of "Jo Domp Kills", Jo
credited himself for making all noises. Thanks to Mark Slobber we know this not to
be true. Musicians who also contributed to this albums have been credited here.) |
